The device (1) is provided with a sensor member for determining a pattern, preferably an adjustable pattern, in the bed. A planting unit (5) is provided with devices for placing plant matter at pattern-determining positions onto or in the bed. The devices of the planting unit are separately controllable. A cutting unit (2) for cutting loose plant matter into plants or slips has separate clods. A buffering unit (4) is provided between the cutting unit and the planting unit.
