The invention provides the use of a dried extract of Salvia officinalis in the manufacture of a medicament, food, functional food, nutraceutical or dietary supplement for use in improving secondary memory function or enhancing attention in a human subject. Also provided is a dried crude extract of Salvia officinalis which gives unique results when submitted to analysis by a combination of NMR spectroscopy and a pattern recognition technique. This extract, which is novel, may be used to modulate cognitive function. |
