PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the approximately same luster in recording material and an image by varying the luster of the image according to the thickness or the degree of luster of the recording material. SOLUTION: In a fixing device provided with a pair of a fixing roll and a press roll installed to be freely rotated while in pressurized contact with each other, a means to detect the thickness and the surface roughness of the recording material is provided. In this case, a control means set so that difference in the luster of the recording material and the image on the recording material is made small by changing the fixing condition of the fixing device according to the outputted value of the detection is provided.
