PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester partially oriented undrawn filament that is suppressed the orientation while the filament is extruded, and has largely increased fiber-forming properties, process-passing properties and productivity. SOLUTION: The polyester partially oriented undrawn filament comprises a polyester bearing the side chains of the structures satisfying the following conditions (i) and (ii) and an optical birefringence of 0.020-0.060: (i) the average molecular weight of the side-chain moiety (M) is 100-10,000; (ii) the chemical structures in the side chain moiety is substantially unreactive in the chemical process in the production of the polyester.
