PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic coating material curable at normal temperature, having high solid content, excellent normal-temperature curability, long pot life and high pigment dispersibility and giving a coating film having high coating film hardness, adhesion and cracking resistance. SOLUTION: The resin composition for coating material is produced by the condensation reaction of (A) 100 pts.wt. of an alkylaryl polysiloxane having a weight-average molecular weight of 500-20,000 and an alkoxy group content of 0-30 wt.% based on the polysiloxane and (B) 0.1-200 pts.wt. of an alkoxysilane having epoxy group in the presence of a reaction catalyst and water. The coating composition contains the resin composition for coating material and an amino-containing alkoxysilane in an amount to give an active hydrogen equivalent of the amino group of 0.3-3.0 based on 1 equivalent of the epoxy group of the resin composition.
