PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger in which heat transfer characteristics and pressure drop characteristics are improved, the number of components is decreased, and the degree of freedom is enhanced in the shape and dimensions. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger (12A, 12B, 12C, 12D) has an outer circumference (112, 156, 58', 366) isolated from the central axis and comprises an inlet (42, 378) and an outlet (44, 380) for first fluid flow, a pair of parallel tube segments (52, 53) wound around the central axis to form a plurality of alternating concentric coils (58), an inlet (46) and an outlet (48) of second fluid flow for the heat exchanger, and a structure (50) for encapsulating the tube segments in order to hold the second fluid in the heat exchanger when the second fluid flows from the inlet to the outlet.
