PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for automatically carrying documents, accomplishing Stop and Start operation and achieving miniaturization. SOLUTION: The device for automatically carrying the documents comprises a document placement rack, a feed roller 10, separation means (a separation roller 11, a separation pad), and a carrying roller (carrying means) for carrying the documents toward a read position by way of flowing image read scanning for reading images during carrying the documents, wherein the feed roller 10 and feed and separation means including the separation means and drive transmitting means for transmitting drive to these are stored in a JAM treatment opening/closing cover 18 and other carriage and discharge means and driving means are provided on the body side, the opening/closing cover 18 having an opening/closing turning shaft 18a also serving as a shaft for transmitting the drive from the body side to the drive transmitting shaft in the opening/closing cover 18.
