Organic hydroperoxides and ketone peroxides are stabilized by the addition of dipicolinic acid. Peroxides specified are t-butyl hydroperoxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, methyl isobutyl ketone peroxide, cyclohexanone peroxide methyl cyclohexamone peroxide and cumene hydroperoxide. A 50-60% solution of the peroxide in an inert diluent, e.g. dimethyl phthalate, may be used. Up to 500 p.p.m. of dipicolinic acid may be employed and this may be added in a solvent, e.g. acetic acid, to the peroxide. In Example (1) an aqueous acetic acid solution of dipicolonic acid is used. In Example (4) triethyl phosphate is used as an inert diluent. |
