PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display device which allows an image observer to recognize a stereoscopic image of good quality having no flicker without requiring any complicated driving control. SOLUTION: A reflection polarizing plate 10 which has a reflection axis 10s and a transmission axis 10p is arranged opposite obliquely at 45 deg. to an observation direction and while a left-eye image display element 20 is arranged so that its projection light impinges on the front of the reflection polarizing plate 10 at an angle of incidence where the light is reflected by the reflection polarizing plate 10 and projected in the observation direction, a right-eye image display element 30 is arranged so that its projection light impinges on the front of the reflection polarizing plate 10 at an angle of incidence where the light is transmitted through the reflection polarizing plate 10 and projected in the observation direction; and a left-eye ocular polarizing plate 41 which has its transmission axis 41a in parallel to the reflection axis 10s of the reflection polarizing plate 10 and a right-eye ocular polarizing plate 42 which has its transmission axis 42a in parallel to the transmission axis 10p of the reflection polarizing plate 10 are arranged before the left and right eyes of the observer 40. |
