PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermocouple for molten metal which prevents metallic element wires of the thermocouple from breaking, and has high durability and good response. SOLUTION: An inner protective tube 4 made of stainless steel is connected to the base end of an inner protective tube 3, which is made of ceramic with its tip closed. Metallic element wires 1, 1a, of which the tips are connected to configure a measuring contact 2, are inserted into the inside of the inner protective tubes 3, 4. A filler 14 is filled into the gap between the inner protective tubes 3, 4 and the metallic element wires 1, 1a. The tip of the inner protective tube 3 is protruded from an outer sleeve 5, which covers the inner protective tube 3. The inner protective tubes 3, 4 are fixed to both ends of the outer sleeve 5 with a fixing member 16. Air space 17 is provided between the outer sleeve 5 and the inner protective tubes 3, 4.
