PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a clamp adjustable according to a shape of a workpiece. SOLUTION: A clamping apparatus 5 is provided with horizontal position adjusting means which can be fixed at any position by moving on a surface of a table. The clamping apparatus 5 has a clamping pillar standing upright from a surface of a table. The clamping pillar is composed of an outer cylinder 11 and an inner cylinder 12 inserted into the outer cylinder 11. A clamp 13 is attached to the top of the inner cylinder 12. A long locking piece 15 is arranged inside the bore of the inner cylinder 12. When the locking piece 15 is turned about its axis, flat parts at locking grooves 20 formed at the lower part of the locking piece 15 come to the positions corresponding to round holes 24 of the inner cylinder 12. As a result, locking balls 25 are disengaged from grooves 26 of the outer cylinder 11 so that an unlocked state is brought about and the inner cylinder 12 can be moved in the vertical direction.
