PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection pump having improved reliability by preventing the occurrence of fretting wear. SOLUTION: A predetermined clearance is provided in a mating face between a bearing cover 60 and a housing body 11. If the pressure and forcible feed of a fuel by a plunger 20 gives tensile force to the housing body 11 via cylinder heads 12, 13 in an area near a fitting hole 11a where a bolt cannot be arranged for fixing a bearing cover 60 to the housing body 11, no slight, repetitive and relative slide involving friction force is caused between the bearing cover 60 and the housing body 11. Thus, the occurrence of the fretting wear on the mating face between the bearing cover 60 and the housing body 11 is prevented and the looseness and breakage of the bolt, the seizure of the plunger 20 and the leakage of the fuel are prevented, resulting in improved reliability.
