The method is for providing a cucumber with a paper cover prepared from a specially formed paper strip with a front edge and a rear edge. The rear edge is provided with an adhesive surface near its outer end. The strip is bent around so that the adhesive surface always comes into contact with the wider front edge. This means that the rear and front edges are connected and as a result the cucumber lies in the thus produced cover, which can carry a suitable printed text, such as ''First class cucumber packed in accordance with out new standard''.
