PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste, namely, vanishing or composting waste such as garbage by fermentative decomposition so that the introduction and management of a waste treating apparatus at a waste generating place can be made easy and a waste treating system can be popularized. SOLUTION: Such a waste treating system is adopted in this waste treating method as is provided with a primary treating apparatus 1 arranged at every waste generating place or in every specified area including a plurality of the waste generating places and a centralized secondary treating facility 2 such as a multistory automated storehouse for handling a pallet of the treated material as a unit. The primary treatment is carried out in each apparatus 1 by agitating, fermenting and decomposing the waste to which other fermenting bed material or the like is added. The contents in a fermentatively decomposing tank of the apparatus 1 are recovered and the recovered material is carried in the facility 2. The secondary treatment is carried out in the facility 2 by adding other sub materials or the like to the recovered material, agitating them to obtain the treated material, housing the treated material in the pallet, stocking the treated material-housed pallet in the multistory automated storehouse and fermentatively decomposing the treated material in the pallet furthermore.
