PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new DNA probe sequence for detecting HIV in a specimen in making a solution phase sandwich hybridization assay. SOLUTION: This probe, which consists of a synthetic oligonucleotide useful as an amplification probe in making a sandwich hybridization assay for HIV, comprises a 1st segment including a nucleotide sequence substantially complementary to an HIV nucleic acid segment and a 2nd segment including a nucleotide sequence substantially complementary to the oligonucleotide unit of a nucleic acid multimer, wherein the HIV nucleic segment is selected from the group consisting of specified sequences. |
