PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas cleaning method which is capable of rapidly restoring filtration performance by easily and surely removing the dust causing clogging from filter media in case the filter media are clogged when dust-laden gas is filtered by using the filter media. SOLUTION: This gas cleaning apparatus has a dust collecting cylinder 4 having a filter wall 5 formed by densely paralleling filaments 9 and captures the dust on the outside surface of the filter wall 5 by passing the dust-laden gas from the outer side to the inner side of the dust collecting cylinder 4. The clean gas filtered by passing the filter wall 5 is once sent to a tank 10 and is stored therein. When the clogging is caused at the filter wall 5 by the dust sticking to the outside surface of the filter wall 5, the clean gas is run backward into the dust collecting cylinder 4 from the tank 10 so as to be blown off from the inner side to the outer side of the filter wall 5 and the dust collecting cylinder 4 is rotated to generate centrifugal force. In addition, the clean gas run backward from the tank 10 is jetted toward the outside surface of the filter wall 5 of the dust collecting cylinder 4, by which the dust sticking to the outside surface of the filter wall 5 is shaken off.
