PURPOSE: A front side member for improving the collision performance of a vehicle is provided to enhance the shock energy absorbing degree by increasing the degree of freedom in design. CONSTITUTION: Quenching is applied to the rear portion of a front side member(10) at a specific interval to induce the axial compressive deformation for maximizing the shock energy absorbing degree. The front side member is made of a trip steel plate of which tensile strength is over 590Mpa.
