PURPOSE: A device and a method for controlling a system power are provided to automatically control the on/off of the system power by a hardware depending on an internal temperature of a system. CONSTITUTION: A temperature sensor(10) senses the internal temperature of the system, compares the sensed temperature with a critical temperature, and outputs a temperature alert signal of a specific level. A reset logic(12) outputs an embedded controller reset signal of a specific level depending on the temperature alert signal. An embedded controller(14) performs an input device and a power block and determines the initiation with response to the embedded controller reset signal. A core chipset(18) performs the data transmission and control between the input and output devices. A control logic(24) blocks the application of an operating power on request signal to the embedded controller(14) through the core chipset(18).
