PURPOSE: A device for detecting defects of water cooling cables of an electric furnace is provided to minimize facility accidents and extend life span of the water cooling cables by immediately taking measures by early detecting defects of the core wire inside the water cooling cables, thereby preventing overheating of adjacent other cables. CONSTITUTION: The device for detecting defects of water cooling cables of an electric furnace comprises a cylindrical operating member(30) that is separately coupled to the lower part of a drain pipe(20); discharge gates(32) a plurality of which are installed along the outer circumference of the operating member(30); a filter housing(40) which is separately coupled to the lower part of the operating member(30), and in which a filter(42) is built; a limit switch(60) which is supported and fixed by a limit fixing member that is fixed to a part of the circumference of the drain pipe(20) and electrically connected to an alarm; and a wire(36) one end of which is connected to the discharge gates(32), and the other end of which is connected to the limit switch(60), wherein tension of the wire(36) is controlled by a saddle shaped reel(54) that is installed at the end part of the limit fixing member, and the filter(42) is formed in a cone shape.
