PURPOSE: An apparatus for automatically setting a bell sound in a mobile communication terminal and a method therefor are provided to measure a noise level and an illuminance in the circumference of a terminal at a uniform time interval through a noise sensor and an illuminance sensor and automatically set the bell sound of the terminal according to the noise level and the illuminance. CONSTITUTION: A memory unit(S1) stores an operation algorithm about a variable range designated by combining each situation-classified illuminance and noise level, a melody according to each variable range, and data as to a melody output volume. A control unit(S2) controls the operation of each circuit unit so that a bell sound of a terminal is automatically set by the melody and melody output volume set in the designated variable range according to the operation algorithm stored in the memory unit(S1). An illuminance sensor(S3) and a noise sensor(S4) measure an illuminance and a noise level for setting the melody and the melody output volume, and transmits the illuminance and the noise level to the control unit(S2), respectively.
