PURPOSE: To provide a drive control method of high efficiency and reliability for a linear compressor of a free piston structure. CONSTITUTION: This drive control method for the linear compressor is provided with a compressing mechanism including a cylinder and a piston and a linear motor actuating the compressing mechanism. The liner motor includes a fixed part, connected to the cylinder and a moving part connected to the piston and generates thrust of the piston. The method includes a first process for energizing the linear motor with a direct current component in start up and a second process for starting movement of the piston from a position already shifted by applying alternating current after that.
