A particulate coated flame−retardant for a polymer, characterized in that it comprises coated inorganic compound particles having a plurality of inorganic compound particles and a coating compound which is bonded with the surface of each of the particles through a covalent bond and covers the surface, and the coated inorganic compound particles have a number average particle diameter (&agr;) of 1 to 1,000 nm, as measured in a composition comprising a polymer and the coated inorganic compound particles dispersed therein.
