CONTINUOUS METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF HYDROPHOBIC SILICA

There is provided a process for continuous production of hydrophobic silica comprising: contacting hydrophilic silica with silicone in a reactor to provide a reactant composition; heating the reactant composition such that hydrophobic silica is formed; providing hydrophilic silica and silicone to the reactant composition such that hydrophobic silica is formed continuously. There is also provided an apparatus for the continuous production of hydrophobic silica comprising: a mixer for mixing the hydrophilic silica and silicone; a reactor for heating the hydrophilic silica and the silicone comprising a heating channel, wherein the reactor is in fluid communication with the mixer; a storage receptacle for storing the hydrophilic silica, wherein the storage receptacle is in fluid communication with the reactor; wherein the system is configured for the continuous production of the hydrophobic silica by varying the amounts of hydrophilic silica and silicone provided to the mixer.
