CATALYST OR SORBENT BEDS

A fixed bed containing a catalyst or sorbent (10) having a deflector (16) to direct the flow of gas or liquid away from regions of higher permeability is described. The deflector (16) may for example be disposed around the edge of the fixed bed to direct the flow of gas or liquid away from the edge. The deflector improves the efficiency of the bed by preventing bypass of, e.g. ammonia through a bed of particulate ammonia oxidation catalyst.
