The invention relates to a mobile terminal (1), to a data carrier (2) and to a method for operating a system that consists of a mobile terminal (1) and a data carrier. The terminal (1) is provided with a device that receives the data carrier (2) and with an enable device that enables certain functions of the terminal (1) only after completion of a successful enable procedure. In an initialing phase that precedes the normal operation an individual hardware feature of the data carrier (2) is detected and stored in the terminal (1) in a test device (3) provided for this purpose. In the normal operation the terminal again detects the hardware feature and compares it with the feature stored in the test device (3). Preferably, the data carrier (2) has a dual-interface circuit configuration and the circuit subsection (6) comprising the antenna port provides the individual hardware feature.
