The invention is concerned with the identification of genetic variants at the IL8 locus. In particular, the invention provides nucleic acid molecules corresponding to variant alleles at the IL8 locus, to kits for the detection of the presence of the variant alleles and also to genetic screening methods for use in determining disease susceptibility and likelihood of developing disease in conditions wherein disease pathogenesis is affected by levels of Il-8.
