IMAGE DISPLAY AND ITS DRIVE METHOD

An image display having cells is driven by a grayscale display method in which information is selectively written according to the input signal in each cell within one of N sub−fields provided in one field and each having a unique luminance weight.In a cell where information is written by sustaining discharge within one of M≤sub−fields(2≤M ≤ N)continuously arranged in a group of N sub−fields,the discharge is sustained for the remaining sub−fields.The number L of sub−fields,in the group of sub−fields,within which information is written in the cell of interest is determined according to at least either the input image signal inputted into the cell of interest or the input image signal within the immediately previous field.Thus,information is written according to a preset content,and thereby suppressing degradation of the image quality due to write failure.
