The invention relates to novel substituted N-acyl aniline derivatives of general formula (I), where R<1> to R<5>, A, X, Y and Z are as defined in claim 1, the tautomers, stereoisomers, mixtures, prodrugs, derivatives with a group, negatively-charged under physiological conditions, in place of a carboxy group and the salts thereof, in particular the physiologically-acceptable salts with inorganic or organic acids or bases with useful properties. Compounds of general formula (I), in which R<2> does not represent an amidino group, are valuable intermediates for the production of amidino compounds of general formula (I), with useful pharmacological properties, in particular a thrombin-inhibiting effect.
