The body (1) of the silencer is prefabricated, and glass wool (2) subsequently inserted from outside. Preferably a rigid filler pipe (15) of flexible hose is inserted through one or several filling openings. The glass wool is put under pressure by the filler pipe or the filler tube (13) in the cavity. Also claimed is a silencer with outer skin (4) incorporating filling holes.
