A PM type stepping motor capable of further reducing higher harmonic components of the detent torque comprises n sets of teeth groups each consisting of m stator teeth (25a - 25f, 26a - 26f) on each of an outer yoke (23) and an inner yoke (24). The pitch P2 of the stator teeth (25a - 25f, 26a - 26f), the pitch P3 of the teeth groups, and the pitch P1 of pairs of an N and an S pole of permanent magnets on the rotor are set such that the relationships P2 NOTEQUAL P1, P3 NOTEQUAL m.P1, and P3 NOTEQUAL m.P2 hold true, where P1, P2 and P3 are electrical angles, and m and n are integers equal to or larger than 2. <IMAGE> |
