In a first step, the data are transmitted from the working medium to a backup medium. Changes in the data to be backed up are allowed on the working medium during this step, but are marked separately in a record file. In a second step, the data transmitted to the backup medium are supplemented by the data changes made during the processing of the first step. During the second step, no changes to the data to be backed up are allowed.
