The safety gap device for a sliding door is defined by a strike plate (10) installed in the rabbet of the lower (11) and/or upper crosspiece of the doorframe. It comprises an opening (11A,11B,11C) for the reception of a locking part (12) for maintaining the door gap when brought into a locking position by an appropriate lock fitting. It comprises a second opening in which the locking part is engaged once the sliding door is closed.
