Polyenes polymn - using pi-complexes of group vi metals as catalysts

Linear polymers of alicyclic polyenes, e.g. 1,5-cyclooctadiene, contg. >=2 C=C bonds are prepd. by ring-opening, in soln. or bulk, in presence of catalysts systems comprising pi-complexes of Gp. VI metals (e.g. tetra-(pi-allyl)-molybdenum) or combinations thereof with the acceptors of the org. and acido-ligands (e.g. EtAlCl2). Catalysts are efficient and stereospecific. There is low induction period in presence of solvents and low gel formation.
