The display device has a stepped hours display and a stepped minutes display with a minutes hand (53) cooperating with a minutes scale (55) having scale markings for 0 minutes and 60 minutes at a defined relative spacing, between which the minutes hand is indexed in uniform steps corresponding to one minute. The minutes hand is jumped between the scale marking for 60 minutes and the scale marking for 0 minutes by movement through a greater angle than that between the successive minute markings, with temporary uncoupling of the normal stepping drive. An Independent claim for a timepiece provided with an analogue display device is also included.
