ENGOBE COMPOSITION FOR CLAY AND KAOLIN BRICKS

PURPOSE: An engobe composition comprising clay, feldspar, agalmatolite, and inorganic pigment is provided, which has various colors, no cracking and good adhesion to clay and kaolin bricks. CONSTITUTION: The engobe composition comprises 100pts.wt. of inorganic minerals(44-149micrometer) including 10-20wt.% of clay, 50-70wt.% of feldspar, 10-40wt.% of agalmatolite, and 5-20pts.wt. of orange-colored inorganic pigments including Zr, Si, and Se. The engobe bricks are produced by the following steps of: mixing the above composition with water in a weight ratio of 1 : 0.6-0.8; coating dried bricks with the mixture; sintering at 1170-1210deg.C to be less than 10% of water absorption. The color of sintered engobe bricks has the values, L*=60-90, a*=1-90 and b*=35-70.
