PURPOSE: A drive belt tensioner is provided to obtain a simplified belt tensioner capable of being assembled quickly at low cost. CONSTITUTION: A tensioner(1) for a drive belt(2) has a fixed portion(3) connected rigidly to a supporting structure(14); a movable portion(4) hinged to the fixed portion about a first axis(A); a pulley(5) carried by the movable portion and rotating, about a second axis(B) distinct from and parallel to the first axis; a spring(6) interposed between the fixed portion and the movable portion, and for loading; and a damping member(30) having a connecting portion(36) fixed rigidly to the fixed portion, and a friction portion(39) cooperating with a seat(47) formed in the movable portion. The spring makes the pulley engaged with the belt by giving load to the movable portion. The tensioner has a single screw(50) for fixing the fixed portion to the supporting structure, and the damping member to the fixed portion.
