PURPOSE: A multi-mode plastic optical fiber having an improved heatproof characteristic and transmission rate and a method for fabricating the same are provided to improve simultaneously a heatproof characteristic and a transmission rate by using diphenyl sulfide as dopant and increasing molecular weight of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: An acrylic plastic optical fiber is fabricated by reacting acrylate monomer of 80 to 90 weight percent, diphenyl sulfide of 10 to 20 weight percent as dopant, polymerization initiator of 0.05 to 0.2 weight percent, polymerization initiator of 0.05 to 0.2 weight percent as chain transfer agent under the temperature of 70 to 80 degrees centigrade. The polymerization initiator is formed with BPO(Benzoyl PerOxide) or AlBN(N,N-azobisisobutyronitrile). The alkanethiol is formed with dodecanethiol or butanethiol. The acrylic plastic optical fiber has molecular weight of 70,000 to 300,000.
