PURPOSE: An apparatus for charging a battery of an electric vehicle is provided to reduce a fabricating cost and power consumption by forming a charging device using a low voltage battery. CONSTITUTION: The first smoothing portion(100) smoothes a DC voltage received from the outside and outputs the smoothened DC voltage. An inverter portion(200) inverts an output voltage of the first smoothing portion(100) to AC voltage and outputs the inverted AC voltage. A booster portion(300) boosts an output signal of the inverter portion(200) and outputs the boosted signal. A rectifier portion(400) converts an output signal of the booster portion(300) to a DC signal. The second smoothing portion(500) smoothes an output signal of the rectifier portion(400) and outputs the smoothened signal. A control portion(600) provides a switch control signal to the inverter portion(200).
