PURPOSE: A mobile device having a variable menu exit time according to menus and a method for controlling the same are provided to recover the current menu into a pre-set mode according to items variably when no input signal is inputted in executing a menu function. CONSTITUTION: A menu storage(32) stores a plurality of menus including an item, which is converted into a mode, corresponded to a selective input of a user. A key input unit(10) is provided for making the menu and item recorded in the menu storage(32) be selected by a user and inputting data. A display unit(20) displays the menu and item selected in the key input unit(10). A menu exit time storage(34) differently stores a time for displaying the menu and item on the display unit(20) and terminating the display according to the menu and item. If a predetermined signal is not inputted until a displaying time of the menu and item is reached to a corresponding menu exit time stored in the menu exit time storage(34), a control unit(60) recovers a system into a pre-set mode automatically.
