PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling wind volume is provided to achieve improved user convenience by linearly controlling indoor fan of air conditioner and allowing a user to control and change wind volume if needed. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling wind volume of air conditioner, comprises an wind volume change unit(10) for selecting wind volume of indoor fan in such a manner that the volume of wind discharged through the outlet port of an air conditioner is changed; a control unit(20) for varying frequency of rotation of an indoor fan motor so as to control wind volume of the indoor fan in accordance with the wind volume selected by the wind volume change unit; an wind volume control unit(30) for varying wind volume of the indoor fan by driving the indoor fan motor in accordance with the rotation frequency varied by the control unit; a rotation sensing unit(40) for sensing the rotational frequency of the indoor fan motor which changes when the wind volume of indoor fan changes; and a storage unit(50) for storing the rotational frequency of the indoor fan motor sensed by the rotation sensing unit.
