The invention relates to a process for preparing amide derivatives from maleic anhydride copolymers, used as polyelectrolytes, flocculants, coagulation activators, scale inhibitors, rust inhibitors, additives for cosmetic products, conditioning and retarding agents for medicaments or other active biological products. According to the invention, the process consists in reacting the binary or ternary copolymers of maleic anhydride with vinyl acetate, styrene, N-vinylpyrrolidone, methyl methacrylate with aromatic and aliphatic amines, in an organic solvent, at a temperature ranging from 20 to 60 degree C for 2 to 16 h.
