The invention relates to a method for producing optimised catalysts which ar e optimised, during the course of said production method, in terms of a desire d catalyst property or a plurality of properties. A synthetic metalliferous or metal-free catalyst is chemically linked to enzyme or protein mutants which are produced by means of molecular biology, and the catalysts created thereb y are subjected to an optimisation process using methods from molecular biolog y, or the directed evolution of enzymes. The invention also relates to the catalysts which can be obtained by said method.
