FIELD: nuclear physics; theoretical estimates of rate of nuclear reaction in palladium deuteride. SUBSTANCE: device used for energy generation due to deuterium sorption-desorption in fine-grain palladium depends for its operation on nuclear reaction between deuterium atoms, its rate rising in crystalline structures of working materials suffering reversible isostructural phase transforms involving changes in their deuterium content. Device has working medium reactor, gas pressure measuring and control system, heating and temperature control system, and released heat transfer and application system. Reactor is made in the form of coaxially disposed tubes equipped with locks which pressurize space accommodating working medium in the form of powder or film on substrate. Heaters are mounted in end parts of tubes for building up temperature gradient variable in direction along reactor axis. Heat-transfer apparatus of primary circuit abuts against reactor directly or through heat-transfer bushing on side radially opposite to position of heaters. Device is available of various modifications ensuring simultaneous sorption of deuterium in working material within heated part of reactor and desorption in its cooled part.
