A method for producing hydrocarbons which comprises providing a catalyst comprising a carrier containing an aluminum oxide and a manganese oxide having an average charge of more than Mn2+ and, carried thereon, at least one metal selected from among alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, rare earth elements and elements of the Group III of the Periodic Table in an amount of 0.1 to 10 mass % and ruthenium in an amount of 1 to 30 mass %, both percentages being relative to the catalyst, and having a specific surface area of 60 to 350 m2/g and a bulk density of 0.8 to 1.8 g/ml, subjecting the catalyst to a reduction treatment, dispersing the reduced catalyst in a liquid hydrocarbon at a concentration of 1 to 50 mass %, and contacting the reduced catalyst with a mixed gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide under a pressure of 1 to 10 MPa (i) in the substantial absence of carbon dioxide at a reaction temperature of 170 to 300˚C or (ii) in the presence of carbon dioxide in an amount of 0.5 to 50 % relative to the total pressure of the hydrogen and carbon monoxide at a reaction temperature of 200 to 350˚C.
|
