<p>A method of reporting input powers for each of a plurality of optical channels input into a dispersive optical component, the method comprising: measuring the output power of each channel at the output of the dispersive optical component; generating an output power matrix with the measured output powers as its elements; recalling from a storage means an inversion matrix which has been derived from a first matrix having a plurality of rows, each row representing a normalised spectral energy distribution for an input optical channel at a particular carrier frequency and a second matrix having a plurality of columns each representing a frequency response for a physical detector of a particular optical channel; and performing a matrix multiplication operation of the output power matrix with the inversion matrix to generate an input power matrix, each element of which represents the input power of a particular optical channel.</p> |
