摘要 This invention relates to a method for the introduction of genes encoding desirable traits into both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants and to plants and parts thereof produced by growing plants using this method. The time required for the production of transgenic plants is significantly decreased, while the number of transgenic plants is significantly increased. These increases are not dependent upon the use of super-virulent Agrobacteri um strains. The invention also relates to an improved technique for in vitro regeneration of mono- and di-cotyledonous plants in a suitable medium containing a novel growth regulator regime that promotes cell elongation in the production of numerous somatic embryos that are regenerable into fertile plants.
