Single coin receiving apparatus, e.g. for a telephone call-box, comprises a gauge plate 2 with slots 2a, 2b, 2c, for coins of different sizes, leading to channels 1a, 1b, 1c, guiding coins into a way 4, coins of adequate diameter rolling against guides 3a, 3b, 3c and behind a partition 5 to a coin shoot 8, whilst too small coins fall over and are deflected by partition 5 to a return shoot 7. Balls are located below and between adjacent slots 2a . . . 2c, so that while one coin is being inserted, the remaining slots are obturated, Fig. 3 (not shown). The first coin M falling down shoot 8 rests on a tongue 9b of the armature 9a of electromagnet 9, so as to rest against stop 11 and to lie diagonally across shoot 8. Any further acceptable coins ride over coin M into the return shoot. Any ferromagnetic disc is deflected upwardly by permanent magnet 6 so as to pass straight into the return shoot. A coin collection signal from the exchange energizes electromagnet 9, so that the coin falls on to ledge 9c of the armature, to operate one of switches 10a, 10b, 10c, to signal the value of the coin to the exchange. On de-energizing the magnet, the coin passes to a collection shoot 8b. Replacing of the handset withdraws stop 11, so that an unused coin passes to the return shoot 7.</p> |
