Disclosed are various systems and methods for printing documents. In one embodiment, a printing system is provided that comprises a host (103) and a local printer (116) coupled thereto, the local printer (116) having a portable device communications port (159) with which to establish a communications link a portable device (166). The local printer (116) includes means for relaying a non-rendered document (198) received via the portable device communications port (159) to the host (103) for rendering. The host (103) includes means in the host (103) for orchestrating a rendering of the non-rendered document (198) into a rendered document (199) with a printer format compatible with the local printer (116), the non-rendered document (198) being rendered using one of a number of applications (176) in the host (103), and, means in the host (103) for transmitting a rendered document (199) to the local printer (116) to be printed.
