The machine for fitting a film over the rim (B) of a rigid pot (C), for packing foodstuffs under vacuum, comprises a vacuum chamber made up of two sections (1, 2). The upper section contains a heated head (3) which melts a layer of adhesive applied to the pot rim. This consists of a heated metal block (32), a sheet metal ring (5) and an elastomeric cushion (27) between them.
