PURPOSE: A direct coding time-to-digital converter having direct output structure is provided which has a serial output structure not using an output encoding logic. CONSTITUTION: According to a digital oscilloscope, enable signals(EN,IN) are inputted delay cells(B1,B2,...,BN) which are arranged in parallel with latch circuits(L1,L2,...,LN) respectively, and a time interval between two rising edges of EN and IN is measured, and its latch output is latched to flip flops(F1,F2,...,FN). An output of a direct coding time-to-digital converter(TDC) of the digital oscilloscope is transmitted serially so that outputs as many as the outputs of the delay cells of the direct coding time-to-digital converter are latched at one time, and the latched result of the time-to-digital converter is output to a host computer serially.
